Welcome to Blogging!

Hello, 5th hour students and welcome to our class blog!  I'm looking forward to all of us working together and making this trimester one where we all learn new technology tools that make our lives more efficient; share ideas, resources, and a shortcut or two; and, do so in an environment that is safe and maybe even a little fun!

We will be using our blog for a variety of things. Our class blog will be for teacher-to-student communication as well as student-to-student communication.  It's main purpose will be for you to learn about blogs and what they are used for. We will also use the blog to post assignments, showcase work, or simply have class discussions.

Once an assignment is posted, you will have a specific period of time within which to respond. You may respond to the blog from class, home, the library or any other place that you might have access to the Internet.

Before we begin, there are ground rules that must be set and followed. Note that if these are not followed you may receive a zero on the assignment(s). Please follow the rules!

  1. All posts must use school appropriate language. When you post, you must write in complete sentences using proper grammar and spelling. Do not use: u, r, ur, b4, cuz, etc.
  2. When commenting on another student’s post, keep your comments non-personal. You can agree or disagree with a comment but refrain from sarcasm, judgment, and/or put-downs. You must state how you feel and why.
  3. You must comment on every article, topic, or question from me - it is an assignment - and your response should thoughtfully address each topic and question posted on the blog. You cannot simply write “I agree.”
Your first assignment will be to answer the following questions about blogging in paragraph form:

1. How much do you know about blogging?
2. Have you ever used or hosted a blog?
3. What might you use a blog for personally?

  1. About blogging I know that it’s where you can post daily things and it’s on the internet. I have never used a blogging website. You may use a blog personally for things like, how your day was or what your doing and stuff like that.

  2. Yes, I know a little about blogging, it’s when you communicate with others. That’s pretty much the only thing I know. I have never hosted a blog let alone used one before. I might use the blog personally by asking questions to the teachers, or to anyone in my class. Someone could use a blog personally by putting stuff about their life.

I have never blogged before I do not know how to use anything on a blogging web site. If I had a blog I might personally use it for what I have an interest in, about my family, or even my friends I have heard of some blogs but I have never used one.

  4. I don’t know a lot about blogging, I just know that it’s something that people use to stay in touch with friends and family or to keep an online journal. I’ve never used or hosted a blog; my mom does, but not me. Personally, I might use a blog to write what’s going on in the world of Hannah’s mind, or I could just keep in touch with all my family in Louisiana or, If I need help with a situation I can post about it and get feedback about what I should do.

  5. I don’t really know anything about blogging except some people use them to tell how they feel and my 7th grade3 teacher used it for assignments. Yes I have hosted and used a blog for computer class. We had to make one to get our homework assignments off. Personally I would use a blog to help with assignments and remind me of events.

  6. I have grown up hearing about blogs, but I’ve never really got acquainted with blogging. I have only ever had to use a blog three or four times in my past. We only used them in my honors English class this year and that’s as far as my blogging experience goes. Personally, I could see myself using a blog to get my ideas and talents out into the world and to go look at other people’s blog to see what kind of new ideas they have. Blogging could help you learn and grow, and be very useful in a student life, like mine.

  7. I know that a blog is a place where you can share your work so people can see it. Others may also comment on your work and give feedback. I never personally have had or hosted a blog before. Personally, you can use a blog to share your work with others, express your views, and communicate with others.

  8. For question number one, I do not know much about blogging. All I really know about it is that it is a helpful resource that enables you to contact other people or some kind of an assignment. Have I ever posted a blog? No, I have never hosted a blog let alone even used a blog. What would I use a blog for? I would be to be able to look any missed assignments on days I have been absent. Or I might use a blog for reaching out to a friend or classmate on what they missed that certain day.

  9. I have never blogged before, therefore I do not know very much if anything at all about blogging. Also, I have never hosted a blog either. Personally, I might use a blog to keep in touch with long distance family, or friends from a previous school. I could also use a blog for helpful things like keeping an updated schedule of our basketball team’s games and practices. I could use a blog to get a conversation going with people who I share a common interest or hobby with.

  10. I know a little about blogging from blogging over the summer for honors english class. I have never hosted a blog and I dont know how to. If I ever made a blog I would use it for keeping up on wrestling and how I would be doing.

  11. I know only that blogs are on the computer. I have not hosted or used a blog before. I would probably not use a blog for anything outside of school. I do not know what other people would use them for either.

  12. I don’t really know too much about blogging besides that other people on the Internet can read what you wrote and sometimes reply to you. No, I have never hosted a blog. I have never known how to even make my own website to do that. You might use a blog to remind you what you are doing or it can help if your upset and you just rant.

  13. I know very little about blogging except for summer homework I had to do for Honors English. For that I only had to comment on certain thigs.Yes, I have used a blog for summer homework for English.I would use a blog to talk about certain things happening around the world or about sports.

  14. I don’t know anything about blogging other than what you just said. I’ve never used a blog and I’ve never intended to. What’s the difference between using and hosting a blog? Personally, I could use a blog write down creative ideas I may be having (because I write books and stuff like that) and get others’ inputs on that idea or I could use it to keep in touch with my friends that live in Alaska, Missouri, and Virginia.

  15. All I know about blogging is that people talk about topics over blogs. Blogs can be a place to write what you have accomplished in a goal. I have never hosted or even used a blog before. Like I said before if you are going step to step on working on something or a goal, you can blog about it to keep people updated.

  16. I have heard a lot about people who are involved in a blog. However, I never really used and fully understood a blog. I have only had to do one blog, and that was for my English class. I don’t know much about blogs but I hope to learn about them. I have never hosted a blog before, but I have been in one. If I had a blog I personally would use it for various sports. I do believe a blog can be a big part in a student or even an older person’s life.

  17. Personally, I do not know much about blogging, but i suppose thats part of what this class is for. Also, i have never used or hosted a blog before, so thats new to me also. If I were ever to use a blog, I'd use it for tips or advice on things

  18. The most I know about blogging is that you post comments about yourself and other things on to a page. No, I have never used or hosted a blog before. You would blog for personal reasons are for updating your status and tell people what you are up to.

  19. I know some stuff about blogging but not a lot; I had to blog for Honors English over the summer and that was it. Yes I have used a blog; I had to make one for blogging about the two books I read over the summer. You might use a blog personally for homework questions and talking to your teachers.

  20. I do not know basically anything about blogging. The little that I do know about blogging is that it is used to post things on a main page. I have blogged once and only once. The only time I blogged was I think in 7th grade. Something that you could use a blog for is to maybe to post a project on there.

  21. I would probably say I know a good amount about blogging, it’s like a Microsoft Word file turned social network – with public comments. I’ve used blog sites for both personal use, to share things with my friends; and for school use, to comment on assignments for English. Personally, I might use a blog to communicate with others that I share interests with.

  22. I do not know that much information about blogging yet, but I hope to learn more about it through the course of this class. I have used a blog previously for Ms. Dubb’s Honors English Class and felt it was very easy to function. Personally, I would use a blog for an “online diary” or maybe to share my thoughts or feelings about certain topics.

  23. I know that a blog is a page that someone hosts and they enter blog posts on the page. Other people can then comment on the posts with more information, or how they feel about it. I have used a blog in my Honors English class to post comments about the books we read over the summer. Someone could use a blog personally to post stuff about what is going on in their life, and other family members can see and comment on it to keep in touch with each other.
